West Lake District is located
in the west of Hangzhou City. It faces the downtown
district in the east. Qiantang River lies in the south
and Fuyang City lies in the west. It connects to Yuhang
District in the north. Total area is 267 km2. In the
territory, there are 2 counties, 5 towns, 7 street
blocks, 71 administrative villages and 104 residential
districts, with a population above 800,000 (among
which, more than 620,000 are resident population).
It cherishes the beautiful West Lake and connects
to grand Qiantang River. This district is the location
of famous West Lake Scenery Area and the location
of provincial committee and provincial government
as well. In this District, there are more than 40
interesting sites of famous hills, well-known rivers,
villas, springs, wells, pavilions, cliffs, caves,
gardens and everglade. Amongst various sights, there
are three national relic protection units, 10 provincial
relic protection units and 16 tombs, torii and museums
of national heroes and revolution martyrs. The beautiful
West Lake is located in the district. ¡°West Lake Top
10 Sceneries¡± and ¡°New West Lake Top 10 Sceneries¡±
are well known in the world. You
may listen to the bells of ancient Lin Ying Temple.
You may return to a countryside life at tea villages
and farm. The fi rst everglade park in China ¨C West
Lake National Everglade Park, can let you touch the
nature and enjoy the smell of lotus and songs of frog.
West Lake District is always the leisure and sightseeing
center in Hangzhou. West Lake District is also a human
center in Hangzhou. It is a paradise for the students
because of many high level colleges/universities such
as Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Industrial &
Commercial College, China Art College Vision Department
and Hangzhou Teachers College. Also, the District
has got the culture and sports facilities such as
Yellow Dragon Sports Center and Zhejiang Library.
